Cause and Effect of Methamphetamine

Cause and Effect Of Methamphetamine on Communities.

Methamphetamine (meth) is one of New Zealand’s A class high risk drugs. Meth is a drug that is very addictive and hooks people in straight away, this is why it is one of NZ’s most addictive and most bought drugs.

Meth is so dangerous, even if you are not the person growing or taking meth and your neighbour or family member is, you can still be affected by the toxins and fumes that are released from the meth labs. Other reasons consist of things like they are a huge fire hazard in fact 5% of meth labs around the world are discovered by a fire or explosion in the house, this also puts family members in danger of serious injury or death. Meth also puts children in danger because if parents have a meth lab in their house the children will have to be taken away and put into foster care because if they are around meth at an early age it can severely damage their lungs and brain.

Methamphetamine is made up of many toxins and chemicals but here are some of them: Acetone, alcohol, freon, anhydrous ammonia, red phosphorus, hypophosphorous etc… The effects that meth can have on users is insane, things like AIDS from sharing dirty needles also HIV and hepatitis are a possibility. This fact really amazes me and I don’t think it’s very fair, so if someone buys a house and rents it out to a family and the family starts growing meth in the house the owner not the the tenants but the owner has to pay to get rid of the meth lab. This can cost up to $5000. Meth labs can be in houses, hotels, basements and even cars! Also each pound of meth produced, five to si pounds of hazardous wastes are generated. Thats a lot.

Methamphetamine is a growing issue all around the world and labs can go unnoticed in neighbourhoods for years and we need to put a stop to this by making a stand.

The Lighthouse

Some say a prison, dungeon or a house … yes a house … and whoever lives in this house … well … he is another kind. The story goes that one day the operator was sitting up in his enormous, broken down lighthouse when BOOM!! A colossal amount of water comes crashing into the lighthouse like a cyclone. Now at this point you would think that the operator would have been swept away and that was the end of that … well … that is infact what some believe … but no 64 years later what really happened was TERRIFYING!!

Marae Visit

As we are walking in we hear the kaikaranga being sung out, the karanga is what the kuia sing to welcome the manuhiri. It's all very peaceful as we make our way under the waharoa and into our seats outfront of the Turangawaewae Marae.

We take our seats with the men in front and the woman at the back and begin the powhiri. Firstly the kaikorero stands up and starts saying his mihi and then begins to welcome us to their Marae. After that Mr Pene stands up and says his own mihi and then thanks the people for welcoming us onto the Marae. Once Mr Pene had finished speaking he placed an envelope on the ground to act as a koha which is a gift in maori as a act of peace.

A koroua then came out and picked up the envelope

Chinese Dining Day

On Monday we went to the Master House Chinese Restaurant for Chinese Dining Day. We hopped on the bus all very excited to try what we have been all term for. As we sat down all the other people in the restaurant looked very concerned as to what was going on. The first course to come out was wontons then followed by noodles, deep fried squid, chicken dumpling, steamed buns, calamari, chicken feet, coconut buns and finally the mango jelly.  I didn't try all of those but from ones I did try I was amazed at the different flavours and tastes that was bought out in the different foods. My favourite food had to be the delicious chicken dumpling followed by the deep fried prawn. This was an amazing experience and I definitely want to do it again. This also wouldn't have been possible without Ms Turner who had so much organising to do for this and I'm sure everyone appreciated her hard work to make this all possible.
